Negombo is known not only for its golden beaches and charming lagoon but also for its rich and vibrant culture. It’s also a food lover’s paradise. Whether you’re into seafood, fusion dishes, or just some good old Sri Lankan flavors, Negombo has something for everyone; they even have some remixes that add their own twist to international cuisine. Whatever you need, you can find it on Negombo. Today, I’m taking you through some of the best spots you absolutely must try if you ever find yourself in this amazing coastal town.
1. BOHO Negombo
So, I’m a picky eater when it comes to food, but if I go to BOHO Negombo, I never have to worry about running out of things to eat. Let’s call it a trendy café and restaurant that brings a touch of modern elegance to the beachside dining scene. Especially if you love Italian or Mexican food, you’re going to love this place. Plus, they do have special items, and they do add some local twists of flavors to make the experience unique.
BOHO Negombo is known for its inviting, bohemian-inspired interiors. Think cozy, eclectic furnishings, vibrant artwork, and a laid-back vibe that instantly makes you feel at home. To be honest, I still don’t know how to explain the feeling exactly, but I can say that the experience is worth having.
The menu at BOHO is a delightful mix of international and local dishes, with a focus on fresh, quality ingredients. Time to time if you love to change the way you live give BOHO a chance I’m pretty sure it will change your life.
2. Seahorse Hotel & Spa : A Hidden Gem in Negombo
If you’re looking for a place to stay that’s not just about comfort but also offers a great food experience, Seahorse Hotel should be on your list. And just like I mentioned in a previous article, it’s one of my favorite getaway places.
Whenever I visit Negombo, it is a busy city with tourists and locals, but I can’t even think about how they managed to build such a calm place for us in the middle of this busy city. Seahorse Hotel gives that cozy feeling like you visited a furbearer place with a blend of serenity and style.
The hotel’s on-site restaurant is known for its excellent food that reflects the flavors of Sri Lanka. You’ll fall in love with the local cuisine here.
One thing I love about Seahorse Hotel is their focus on fresh ingredients. The menu offers a nice mix of Sri Lankan and international dishes, with a focus on seafood.
I still remember the Seahorse Special Chopsuey Rice I had there – it was perfectly seasoned and just the right portion. They also do a fantastic fish curry, full of rich spices but balanced with just enough coconut milk to keep it smooth and flavorful.
The staff here are super attentive, making you feel right at home. Whether you’re having breakfast in their outdoor dining area or enjoying a quiet dinner under the stars, the service is always top-notch.
3. Salt Restaurant
Salt Restaurant is a must-visit if you’re looking for that perfect beachside dining experience in Negombo. Trust me when I say this: it’s an ideal choice for a laid-back meal while watching the waves roll in. The location is so welcoming.
The menu at Salt is diverse, with a focus on fresh, locally sourced seafood. Their seafood platter is a crowd favorite – a generous mix of prawns, calamari, and fish, all grilled to perfection and served with a side of crispy fries or a light salad. I’ve personally tried their grilled tuna steak, which was not only cooked just right but also seasoned beautifully.
What I love about Salt is how they manage to blend local flavors with a touch of international flair. Their spicy crab curry is a hit for those who want to dive into authentic Sri Lankan spices, but they also offer a mean burger or a wood-fired pizza for those craving something more familiar.
The service is always friendly, and the staff go out of their way to make sure you’re comfortable.
4. TukTuk Wine & Dine
TukTuk Wine & Dine is one of my personal favorite places to stay whenever I visit Negombo, and for a good reason: It offers a unique experience. For a dining experience that’s a bit different from the usual Negombo spots, TukTuk Wine & Dine stands out with its fun, quirky vibe. And hey, I must say the evening live music adds magic to that fantastic vibe. As the name suggests, it’s a fusion of local Sri Lankan dishes paired with an excellent selection of international wines.
Located in a charming corner of the town, this restaurant is perfect for both casual hangouts and special dinners. Tuktuk Yodha Pizza Is to die for. I still don’t know how they managed to create such a creative and vibrant concept for this hostel. They also offer dorm rooms, making it a great option for a budget-friendly hostel stay.
They also have a selection of international cuisine, which is perfect for sharing if you’re there with friends or family. Mixed Seafood Platter is also a very famous dish in TukTuk Wine & Dine.
It’s a fun, lively place to enjoy good food, great company, and a glass of wine while soaking in the relaxed Negombo atmosphere.
5. Heritance Negombo
If you are looking for a slightly upscale and luxurious place to dine or stay, Sentido Heritance Negombo might be your ideal place.
Heritance Negombo is where luxury meets exquisite cuisine. Its restaurants are equally impressive, providing a range of gourmet options that cater to both local and international palates.
One of the standout dining spots at Heritance is Blue Tan, which specializes in seafood and grills. The view and the vibe are so amazing you’ll never be able to forget about it.
With the ocean literally steps away, the seafood is as fresh as it gets. Their grilled lobster, served with a buttery garlic sauce, is a must-try for seafood lovers.
For a more casual dining option, you can head to B-BUMS Restaurant, where they serve a range of international dishes, from pasta to steaks. Their wood-fired pizzas are a hit, especially if you’re in the mood for something familiar with a Sri Lankan twist – think fresh seafood toppings or spicy chicken.
The combination of world-class service, beautifully crafted dishes, and a stunning beachfront location makes dining at Heritance Negombo a truly memorable experience.
